Tutoring FAQ for Students

How do I book an appointment with a tutor?

You can find the link to book an appointment here.

How long is each tutoring session?

You can sign up for only one hour at a time. It is okay if your appointment runs under one hour. If you think your appointment may take over one hour, communicate that with your tutor.

How do I communicate with my tutor?

Once you book a tutoring session, your tutor should be in contact with you via email soon after. To protect our tutors from spam emails, you will not receive their email upon booking. It is up to the tutor to establish contact with you about your session.

What if my tutor doesn’t contact me?

If your tutor does not contact you within an appropriate time limit to discuss the details of your appointment, you may report them here.

What virtual platforms can be used for tutoring sessions?

Before booking an appointment, you will be asked to fill out an intake form that includes a question about what virtual platforms you have access to and are comfortable with. Among them are Zoom, Skype, Webex, Phone Call, and Other. When your tutor contacts you, they’ll discuss platforms with you to determine which is best for both of you. Please keep in mind that you have a Zoom license through your UWF email.

What happens if my tutor doesn’t show up for our scheduled meeting?

If your tutor does not show up for your scheduled meeting, you may report them here.

Can I make in-person tutoring appointments?

Yes, you can make in-person tutoring appointments. However, the default appointment type you are able to schedule are currently virtual. If you would like to schedule an in-person tutoring session, you will need to make them on an individual basis with a BAP tutor. Alternatively, you can request that your session be in-person when your tutor contacts you to discuss the details of your appointment. Keep in mind, however, that they are able to refuse your request. If you do have an in-person appointment with a tutor, make sure to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines, as well as UWF guidelines if you are going on campus.

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?

We suggest that you first email your tutor to reschedule or cancel with them. You can also reschedule with them or cancel the meeting through the confirmation email you were sent when you first booked the appointment.

What happens if I don’t show up to a scheduled meeting or forget about it?

If you don’t show up to a scheduled meeting, your tutor is advised to email us. There are no penalties for either you or your tutor if you do not show up. Please be advised that if BAP is made aware that you have multiple no-shows, you may become ineligible for tutoring in the future.

Is there a limit for how many times I can be tutored?

There is no limit to how many times you can be tutored or how many classes you can be tutored for.
