Tutoring FAQ for BAP Members

How do I sign up to be a tutor?

You can find the link to sign up for tutoring here.

How many hours am I required to tutor?

For the Spring 2022 semester, you are required to have a minimum of 10 service hours.

What if no one signs up for tutoring with me?

For the Spring 2022 semester, as long as you have signed up for a minimum slot of one hour each week, we will consider you to have automatically met the 10 hour requirement regardless of if you have any real tutoring hours. If your real tutoring hours surpass the 10 hour minimum, your real tutoring hours will be counted instead.

I am unable to tutor this semester. Are there any other ways besides tutoring to meet the service hour requirement?

Each semester, you are allowed to count up to 5 hours of non-BAP sponsored community service hours towards your required tutoring hours.

What virtual platforms can I tutor students on?

Any platform that you are comfortable with. This includes platforms such as Zoom, Skype, Webex, FaceTime, through phone call, or any other virtual means. Please keep in mind that you have a Zoom license through your UWF email.

What if I tutor someone who hasn’t booked an appointment with me through the website?

If you tutor someone who did not book an appointment with you on our website, you can self-report those hours here.

What happens if the person I’m scheduled to tutor doesn’t show up for our meeting?

If the student you’re scheduled to tutor doesn’t show up, please email us at bap@uwf.edu. That hour will be counted regardless, but we would like to be aware when students do this.

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel an appointment?

We suggest that you first email the student you were planning on tutoring to reschedule or cancel with them. You can also reschedule with them or cancel the meeting through the confirmation email you were sent when they first booked with you. Otherwise, if something happens and you cannot make your meeting, please email us and let us know.

What happens if I don’t show up to a scheduled meeting or forget about it?

If you don’t show up to a meeting, students have the option to report you on our website. The first time you are reported as a no-show to a scheduled meeting, you will receive a warning email and will have to make up that hour of tutoring. The second time you are reported, you will have to complete a minimum of 10 real tutoring hours for this semester in order to meet the membership requirements. In the case of a missed meeting due to an emergency, contact us at bap@uwf.edu to let us know.

Can I tutor students in person?

Yes, you can tutor students in person. However, the default appointment type students are able to schedule are currently virtual. If you would like to schedule an in-person tutoring session, you’ll need to make them on an individual basis and self-report them here. Make sure to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines, as well as UWF guidelines if you are going on campus.
